What am I good at?
What do I love to do?
Is there more to my life than this?
Do you ask yourself these questions? If so, you’re not alone. You are joined by millions.
There are natural assets inside each of us, be they latent or not, which can be identified as your strengths.
Chances are you’ve already heard this. But, until you progress from just hearing or believing you have strengths to learning how to recognize and use them, your strengths probably won’t benefit you much.
I find that most people only see themselves in terms of jobs they could do or careers they could fulfill. This dynamic keeps people stuck and afraid in jobs and careers they loathe. They fail to recognize a whole host of available options.
A much more profitable vantage point is to wake up and realize:
I am a unique individual with hundreds of natural assets that can be nurtured and accessed in the pursuit of a job or career.
So, if you’re wondering: WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS? I have three creative suggestions:
- Create a log of Your Strong Moments — those times when, after completing a task or project, you feel really empowered and inspired. Keep making entries into your log until you have 50 items written down. Yes, this will take some time. But, if you truly do go to the effort of creating a Strong Moments log, I’d be willing to offer you a free 30-minute coaching session to debrief and get you to the next step.
- Create a log of What You Pay Attention To — these are the details, the observations and unique fragments of life, which you notice and most people don’t. Keep this log with you over the next 30 days. Record enough detail to keep each observation fresh and full in your mind. And here again, if you are willing to go to the effort, I’d be willing to match your effort with a free 30-minute coaching session to discuss and get you to the next step.
- Create a log of Your Aspirations — those activities or heart dreams you’d love to do. French actress Sarah Bernhardt (1844–1923) said, “Life begets life. Energy creates energy. It is by spending oneself that one becomes rich.” Use Sarah’s words as a guide and keep this log going until you have noted at least 100 items. Yes, I did say 100. Trust me, 100 is a magical number in terms of logging Aspirations. Once you’ve reached 100, I’ll offer you a free 30-minute coaching session to discuss your log and guide you to the next step.
The truth is: YOU ARE STRONG! The other truth is: If you’re willing to put forth some effort to start believing and identifying your strengths, we’re willing to support you toward living a BE STRONG life.
Authors Note:
You’ll notice that not once in this blog did we mention things like: What jobs have you had or careers are you interested in? There are huge dividends awaiting those who look deeper, who find their assets before they try to smash, plug or fit into a job. It takes time but it’s worth it.
