Own What Is Yours
I believe the most meaningful life is one designed and acquired through self-authorship.
You can’t inherit a life of meaning. I certainly don’t believe that kind of life can be handed to you. My experience is that it has to be carved out with your own hands.
Owning what your life looks like is imperative to having a meaningful life.
The “Owning What Is Mine” Mindset
This mindset is as free from victimhood as possible. Instead, it is driven by personal authority. It thrives on authenticity and the ability to trust yourself.
It means giving yourself the sovereignty to define your life from the inside out rather than allowing fear, expectations, other people, or old conditioning to do the job for you. It’s part of what it means to live as an inspired badass.
How much of the Own Your Life mindset do you have? Want to find out?
How Much Do I Own What Is Mine?
Read each statement below and rate yourself using this scale:
1 = Rarely True
2 = Occasionally True
3 = Sometimes True
4 = Usually True
5 = Consistently True
- I define success by my own metrics instead of other people’s expectations.
- When life isn’t going the way I want, my first instinct is to ask, “What is mine to own?” before blaming circumstances or other people.
- I know my top three core values, and I intentionally align my actions and decisions with them.
- I understand the deeper personal needs that drive me, my Unique Personal Needs, and I take responsibility for meeting them in healthy ways.
- I regularly enlist my natural strengths and superpowers rather than trying to become someone I’m not.
- I make difficult decisions based on what is right for me rather than trying to earn approval or avoid conflict.
- When I discover a limiting belief, outdated story, or old identity that no longer serves me, I’m willing to question it instead of protecting it.
- My goals genuinely excite and inspire me because they reflect who I am, not who I’m “supposed” to be.
- My closest relationships allow me to be authentic rather than requiring me to perform, hide, or continually prove myself.
- Looking at my life today, I would say I am actively designing it instead of reacting to it.
Now add up your score.
If You Scored 40–50
You are living with a lot of Soul Sovereignty.
You’ve developed a strong practice of self-authorship. Life will always hand us uncertainty, but you’ve learned to respond by consulting your values, your truth, and the Salt of your Soul.
Continue refining your practices. Continue building a meaningful life. That endeavor is an ongoing creation.
If You Scored 30–39
You are building your own life, and perhaps still borrowing a few pieces from others.
You probably feel ownership over many parts of your life. However, there may still be areas where old expectations, people-pleasing, fear, or someone else’s definition of success influence your choices.
Consider this score an invitation to become even more intentional about who’s in charge of your life.
If You Scored 20–29
You could be standing at an interesting intersection.
You may have moments when you hear yourself thinking, There must be more to life.
This score can suggest that your life is organized around survival, obligation, or someone else’s definition of success more than you realized.
The good news?
Awareness is where self-authorship begins.
If you’re ready to move from awareness into action, schedule a time to talk with us about what comes next.
If You Scored 10–19
Your life may be running on someone else’s blueprint.
That doesn’t mean you’ve failed. You may have spent years adapting, surviving, pleasing, or simply doing what seemed necessary.
You made it this far. Now the invitation is to reclaim your authority.
Begin by asking yourself one simple question: What is truly mine to own?
Then, if you’re ready to turn your answer into action, schedule a discovery call and let’s plan your next step.
A Reflection on What It Means to Own Your Life
At SoulSalt, we believe ownership is about far more than controlling everything. In fact, you can’t control everything. Ownership means accepting responsibility for the things that actually belong to you.
Give less of your energy to:
- what happened to you
- what other people think
- the economy
- your past
- another person’s choices
Give more of your energy to:
- your values
- your beliefs
- your responses
- your boundaries
- your healing
- your growth
- your next decision
- the meaning you create from your life
That is how you begin to own your life. You can do it. Many of us have. Start today.
One Final Thought…
If you woke up tomorrow fully believing that your life belongs to you, and no one else gets to author it, what is the very first thing you would change?
Go make that happen.
